Why is it so good to do in school?
Excellent for Speech - Recording dialogue and sound effects with a microphone is excellent for children with speech problems and for those who need to build up their confidence and fluency.
Excellent for ICT - We called them computers because originally they were for calculating. Then they were mainly word processors, now they are ‘superfast electronic moving picture machines’. This is what kids rush home to use them for. Have a glance over your target ICT skills , there won’t be many that are missed in the process of making a complete digital animation.
Excellent for self-esteem - I have found animation the single most engaging activity I have tried with kids in school. They are usually keen to produce some animation, but even keener to show it. Art goes up on the wall, poems get read out in assembly, but animation gets ’premiered’. Nothing boosts kids esteem like holding the attention of their peers, and nothing does that better than having the whole school watch and be entertained by your movie.

Animation means bringing things to life. That might mean making figures and scenes
which move just like film. It might mean presenting images and sounds in a particular
sequence
And......Its tremendous FUN
(Are we allowed to say that ?)
Animation is also an excellent means of showing and sharing art work Like it
or not, for youngsters today the electronic image commands more attention than the
framed picture. As a movie with music and dialogue the effect is even more dramatic.
Thanks to the all forgiving microphone and editing programs you can try things
as many times or in as many different ways as you like. I find it best to leave the
microphone on and record everything without stopping for re-takes. Sort it all in
the edit. (Just me and Mike)
